Software you install. Voxta is a local server with a web interface, so it opens in your browser but runs on your PC. If you'd rather not manage a GPU, connect Voxta Cloud and the AI models run on our servers instead, from the same interface.
Voxta Lite is free: sign in, get some Voxta Cloud credits and start talking. No subscription, no card. Lite runs on Voxta Cloud instead of local AI, so it works on any Windows machine. Subscriptions add the full server with local models on your own hardware, the desktop companion and a monthly credit allowance that rolls over.
It does things. Give it a workspace and it reads, writes and edits your files. It can run Claude Code or OpenAI Codex for real coding work, search the web, call MCP tools, and you can script its behaviour in JavaScript.
Windows 10 and 11 get the full desktop app and are the recommended setup. Linux works: run the server and use the browser interface, minus a few Windows-only features like screen capture. Subscribers get an Android app from the portal. There's no macOS or iOS app yet.
Only if you want to run the AI models locally. With Voxta Cloud the heavy work happens on our servers, so Voxta itself runs fine on modest hardware. You can go fully local, fully cloud, or mix the two.
When you run local models, nothing leaves your machine. When you use Voxta Cloud or a third-party API, only that request goes out. There is no telemetry in the app, and you choose per service what runs where.
Yes. There is a C# SDK on NuGet for building modules, Python integration for custom AI logic, MCP support for tools, and an API and module system the community builds on.
